Shopify discount combinations are a hot topic for stores looking to use discounts effectively. In this post, I’ll explain how to allow customers to use multiple discount codes in your Shopify store.

Shopify Discount Code Combinations
By default, Shopify only allows one discount code per purchase. However, Shopify has recently introduced a feature that allows multiple discounts to be used in a single transaction – a much-needed update for stores looking to offer more flexible promotions.
Setting Up Discount Code Combinations
Let’s walk through an example setup step by step.
Imagine you have a 10% discount code called “WELCOME10” and you want customers to be able to use it with your free shipping code, “FREESHIPPING.”
First, open the “WELCOME10” discount code in your Shopify admin. At the bottom of the discount code screen, you’ll see a section called “Combinations.” Since you want this code to work with your free shipping discount code, select the “SHIPPING CODES” option.
Now your “WELCOME10” code is ready for combinations. However, enabling Shopify discount combinations requires configuring both discount codes.
Next, open the “FREESHIPPING” code settings and select the “Order Discount” option within the “Combinations” section.
After saving these settings, customers can now use “WELCOME10” and “FREESHIPPING” together.
How Does It Work With Automatic Discount Codes?
Shopify discount combinations are often needed with automatic discounts. The steps to enable automatic discounts to work with other discount codes are the same.
Update the settings for both the automatic discount and the other discount code you want to combine it with. This will allow your discount codes to work together.
Using Growth Suite Discount Codes with Other Shopify Discounts
If you are using Growth Suite to offer discounts in your store and want to allow Growth Suite codes to be used with other discounts, you can easily do so.
Go to your Growth Suite dashboard and click on the “Targeting” menu on the left.
In the “Discount Combinations” section, select the types of other discount codes that you want to be compatible with Growth Suite.
From this point on, Growth Suite will generate combinable codes.
If you also configure the “Combinations” settings for any other discount code you want to allow for combination (whether automatic or not), your customers will be able to complete their purchases using Growth Suite discount codes in conjunction with those other codes.
Important Considerations for Shopify Discount Combinations
If you don’t carefully configure your discount code settings, combining discount codes on Shopify could lead to offering very large discounts.
For each discount code, carefully check settings such as customer eligibility and the minimum order value required for the discount to be valid.
